Answers pertaining to billing practices by an Alabama company wanting to provide ambulance service to Clinton were unclear at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
At one point Dave Snavely, Lifeguard Ambulance Service’s vice-president for business development, said his firm would waive any co-pay charges for nursing home and Veterans Center residents that aren’t paid by the federal government or the patient’s insurance.
As an example, he said Medicare might authorize $300 of a $600 bill but wind up paying only $240. “We would waive the remaining $60,” he said.
However, at another point he said, “If they have money to pay the bill, we’re obligated to charge them the Medicare rate.”
