Carlton Barry ‘Sonny’ Selman

Private family services have been scheduled for Carlton Barry “Sonny” Selman, 60, Clinton resident. By Selman’s request his body was to be cremated.Selman died early Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at his Clinton home. He was born on July 9, 1953 in Roswell, N.M., the son of John Edward and Bonnie (Bessler) SelmanHe started his young life in the Clinton area and moved with his mother back to the Roswell area when he was about six years old before returning to Clinton at about age 14. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1971.Selman wrestled and played football for Clinton during his high school career. He continued his education at Oklahoma State University for a short time before entering the U.S. Marine Corps.  He served a two year stint and received “Marine of the Year” of his platoon one of those.He married Rowena Warkentin in December of 1976 in Montana. He returned to Clinton and married Vicki Regina Dowdell Feb. 14, 2003 in Clinton. They had made their home west of Clinton for several years.Selman worked at various positions in Clinton but was best known for his art work, and he was self-employed at many jobs.He was preceded in death by his father.Survivors include his wife, Vicki, of the home; two daughters, Brianna Auge and her husband, Ethan, of Weatherford, and Samantha Selman, of the home; two step-sons, Anthony White, of Hobart, and Chris Maynard, of El Reno, his mother, Bonnie Bessler, of Clinton; brothers and sisters, including Lindy Sparks and her husband, Jeff, of Hennessey, and Mona Malone, of eastern Oklahoma; and two grandchildren, Elleanna Auge and Ayla Auge, both of Weatherford.Arrangements are under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home, Clinton.
