Celebration planned for 90th anniversary of Route 66
A special event will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum, when it celebrates the 90th anniversary of the famous highway. Route 66 was officially born in 1926, when the U.S. established the national highway system.
The celebration will include the induction of two individuals into the Oklahoma Route 66 Hall of Fame. Two new exhibits at the museum will also be unveiled, a folk art exhibit and an outdoor display of photographs depicting well-known spots along Route 66, past and present, including Clinton as well as places in other states.
Master of ceremonies for the event will be Michael Wallis of Tulsa, author of “Route 66: The Mother Road.” Wallis is also a co-founder of the Route 66 Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion and enhancement of historic Route 66.
