Cordell hires police chief; vote called

Cordell has a new police chief. It also has a vote pending for the city marshal to be appointed by the mayor with approval of the City Council. And it has in hand a petition calling for the resignation of Mayor Bob Plummer.
All that took place at a nearly 3½-hour City Council meeting held Monday night.
Brandon Rogers, a Cordell resident and former Washita County deputy sheriff, received an ovation when he was named police chief on a 5-1 vote with one council member abstaining. His selection apparently ends consideration of an out-of-towner who had been indicted by a multi-county grand jury on a charge of embezzlement. The Cordell Beacon said that individual pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of willful neglect of duty by a public official.
