The death penalty will not be sought for Jeronimo Garcia-Espinoza, suspected of chasing and shooting another man to death nine years ago on a vacant lot in northwest Clinton.
Garcia’s court-appointed attorney, Newell Wright of the Clinton office of the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System, said Monday an agreement made with the government of Mexico for his client’s extradition was that he would not be put to death.
“I had to sign a number of agreements that I would not seek the death penalty,” Assistant District Attorney Ricky McPhearson confirmed to District Judge Doug Haught.
