Industrial park bids sliced 63%

By breaking the project down into smaller parts and rebidding, the City of Clinton may have reduced the construction cost of its new Commerce Industrial Park by two-thirds.
Only one bid was received June 27 when the entire 100-acre project was bid as a single package. It was almost $2.2 million.
New bids were opened Monday afternoon at City Hall. In sharp contrast to the one big bid received a month earlier, 17 separate bids from 12 contractors came in after the project was divided into four parts. Combining the lowest bid for each of the four parts, the total this time was just under $1.4 million – a difference of $801,747, or 63.2 percent
