“We strongly suspect the fire started from the control panel in the stove,” said the chief

A fire believed to have started from an electrical short destroyed a cookstove and did considerable damage to a garage Tuesday night at 223 Rawlings Dr.
Jennifer Smith-Lewallen owned the house, and she and her son lived there. Fire Chief Forrest Valentine said she had left the residence to run an errand and when she came back, the garage was on fire.
Valentine said the electric stove was plugged in at the time but Ms. Lewallen said she hadn’t cooked anything with it in three or four days.
