Veteran pilot killed in crash at Burns Flat

A 66-year-old Broken Arrow man was killed about 8:20 a.m. Saturday just north of the Oklahoma Spaceport at Burns Flat when an experimental airplane he had helped build crashed.
The deceased pilot, Scott Edward Wilson, was the only occupant of the single-seat airplane designed after a 1930s French aircraft. The only model of the original plane, called a Bugatti 100P, was kept in storage during World War II and sold several times before its two engines were removed for automotive restorations.
“I call it the most historically significant airplane that never flew,” Wilson was quoted by television station KFOR (Channel 4) as saying in an interview before his death.
