Wild hogs continuing to expand

Despite the best efforts of farmers and government workers alike, wild hogs are continuing their encroachment into Custer County.
“They’re becoming a horrendous problem around here, particularly in the northeastern part of the county,” OSU Extension Director Ron Wright said Thursday. “They’re just wrecking crops up there.”
Wright spoke after an appearance at Monday’s county commission meeting by Bret Dowell of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture. During the meeting commissioners renewed the county’s annual $2,400 contribution to help the department try to stem the statewide proliferation of wild hogs, also known as feral hogs. “Feral hog” is simply a term used for a hog living in the wild which has descended from domestic swine.
