Irene Lue Baden Tullis

Memorial services for Irene Lue Baden Tullis, 91, Tulsa resident and longtime Oklahoma City resident, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday  at Resthaven Chapel in Oklahoma City with the graveside service immediately following.

Mrs. Tullis died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014. She was born on March 24, 1923 in Hobart, the third of six children born to Herman Ernest Baden and Virgie Vesta Roper Baden.

Mrs. Tullis was baptized by the Lutheran Church at 3 months of age. During her early childhood, the family lived in Roosevelt in southwest Oklahoma, later moving to the Canute and Butler area on a farm near Panther Creek.

She helped her father work the farm, plowing and milking, and graduated from Pie Flat High School near Butler where she was a cheerleader and excelled in math. She worked at the Palace Drug Store in Elk City.

On Jan. 23, 1943, she married John Leonard Tullis of Leedey. On Jan. 27, 1943 her husband joined the Allied troops in World War II at Normandy Beach as a member of the 146th Combat Engineering Battalion.

After the war, John L. and Irene farmed near Leedey, raising crops and Hereford cattle for many years. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

The family later moved to the Oklahoma City area and owned a billiards recreation business on 29th Street. Mrs. Tullis worked at TG&Y prior to retirement. She resided in her southwest Oklahoma City home for 46 years before moving to the Tulsa area to live with her niece.

Preceding her in death were John L. Tullis in 1993; son, Johnny in 2000, daughter-in-law Karen in 2012; parents, Herman and Virgie; brothers, Ernest Ray, Herman Jr.(infant) and Billy Gene in March 2014; and sisters Dorothy (age 10) and Pauline.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Billy G. Baden; eight nieces and nephews; and one grandson.
