Linda Sue (Harms) Martin

Funeral services for Linda Sue (Harms) Martin, 60, of Nevada, Mo. resident, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today (Wednesday), also at the funeral home.

Mrs. Martin died of breast cancer on Sept. 14, 2014. She was born May 1, 1954, in Clinton, the daughter of Ogen J. and Pauline (Schmidt) Harms.

She was baptized at the age of 11 at the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church on Oct. 24, 1965.

She attended grade school and junior high in the Corn Public School system. For high school, she attended Corn Bible Academy and graduated with an academic diploma as well as a Bible diploma.

Mrs. Martin went on to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford where she received a “secretarial science certificate.”

She taught Sunday school, AWANA and VBS for more than 40 years.  She also played piano in church services.

She married Bill Uplinger in 1975.

On Aug. 8, 1992, Anthony “Tony” L. Snyder-Martin became Linda’s husband.  In 1997 Amber asked if Tony would adopt her and it was made official.

In 2000 the family moved to Nevada, Mo., where they made their home and her husband started a new job with 3M.

Mrs. Martin worked for Richardson Construction, Co. Fashion 2-20, the Custer County Election Board, and SWOSU. After moving to Missouri she worked for Nevada Auto Mall and Suzan Gaster Accounting.

In October 2007, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and left her job. With the prayers of her church and people all over the U.S. and Canada, she received an “all clear” on Aug. 25, 2008.

Nearly five years passed until on March 5, 2012, the cancer returned and spread.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ogen J. and Pauline (Schmidt) Harms.

Survivors include her husband, “Tony” Anthony L. Snyder-Martin of the home; two daughters, Heather R. (Uplinger) Harrington of Oklahoma City and Amber C. (Martin)  Coble and her husband, Jim W., of Joplin, Mo.; four grandchildren, Felicity A. Harrington of Oklahoma City, Austin J. Hayden, Taylor C. Lewis, and Olivia “O.J.” Coble, all of Joplin, Mo.; one sister, Margaret A. (Harms) Adams and her husband, James, of Clinton; and four nephews.

Interment will be in the Akins Cemetery in Akins, Okla.

Memorial contributions may be made to Corn Bible Academy in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
