Audrey Gretta Marshall Van Gelder Fox

Memorial services for Audrey Gretta Marshall Van Gelder Fox, 89, of Elk City, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Martin-Dugger Chapel in Elk City.

Mrs. Fox died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at the Bell Avenue Nursing Center in Elk City. She was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Corning, N.Y., the daughter of Clarence H. and Agnes (Stickler) Marshall.

She grew up in the towns of Campbell and Cooper-Plains, both in New York, where she received her schooling and attended the Methodist Church in Coopers-Plains. She was baptized at the church there.

On March 28, 1947, she married Donald C. Van Gelder in Painted Post, N.Y. They resided in Bath, N.Y., where her husband worked.

In 1959, she was employed by the local hospital until Sept. 1, 1973, at which time her family moved to Mesa, Ariz.  Donald, her husband for 29 years, preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1977.

On Feb. 19, 1985 she married Barton A. Fox, and they resided in Apache Junction, Ariz. She resigned from her position at the hospital on March 13, 1987, and the couple moved to Leedey in April of 1987, where her husband worked on a ranch for Roy Mooney.

Barton Fox preceded her in death on March 14, 1997.

In May of 1998 she moved to Elk City, to be near her granddaughter, Audrey Van Gelder.

Survivors include a son, Duane Van Gelder and his wife, Dorothy, of Corning, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Audrey Van Gelder of Mustang; a great-grandson, Tyler Birmingham of Mustang; one sister, Donna

Pfuntner of Dansville, N.Y.; a sister-in- law, Joyce Marshall of Bath, N.Y.; five nephews; two nieces; and 15 great nephews and nieces.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, Clarence and Agnes Marshall; and a brother, Douglas Marshall.

The family suggests memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the charity of one’s choice in care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home, 600 W. Country Club Blvd, Elk City, OK 73644.
