Jack Barnett Shelton
Funeral services for Jack Barnett Shelton, 87, are scheduled at South Shore Baptist Church in Crownsville, Md., on Saturday.
Shelton died Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Md. He was born in Perryville, Ark., on May 24, 1927.
Following overseas service in the Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1947, he married Margaret Beth Short in 1950, earned a degree in journalism from the University of Central Arkansas in 1951, and embarked on a varied and fruitful career as a newspaperman, journalist and publisher.
The couple moved to Clinton in 1955, where he served as editor of the Clinton Daily News under Charlie Engelman.
In 1965 he became public relations director at Southwestern State College (later university) before starting the Weatherford Press.
He retired to Maryland in 1989, continuing his love of photography and serving in local churches while staying close to family.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margaret; children, Becky West, Susan Smith, and son, Jack; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family suggests contributions in Shelton’s honor be made to South Shore Baptist Church or through the Bible Radio.
