James Lee Landers

Retired Col. James Lee Landers, born in Clinton Oklahoma on Dec 31, 1928, was called home Feb 16, 2015 after a lengthy illness.

Services will be held Saturday, June 6, at 11 am at the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, followed by a graveside ceremony with full military honors at the Clinton Cemetery. Anyone that knew Jim or who would like to pay their respects is welcome.

Jim graduated high school in Clinton and went to college on a football scholarship at the University of Tulsa. He played right guard, center and running back for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane for four years and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in military science.

After graduating college, he served one year in the Army as a paratrooper, then joined the Air Force Academy and enrolled in flight school.

He became a pilot, flight training instructor, commanding officer and was a decorated veteran. He served one year in Vietnam as forward air control.

During part of his extensive military career he worked as staff officer at the Pentagon and retired in Austin, Texas at Bergstrom AFB as Wing Commander of the 602nd TAC in ’77, after serving 27 years in the military.

He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt, fish and golf. He was a member of a skeet shooting club and won a World Championship in ’67. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Irene Landers, of Clinton and survived by his daughter, Devin Ross; grandson, Brandon Ross; a sister, LaJoy Koch; and his two nieces, Jamee Koch and Michelle Langham. He is dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all.
