Mary Mahone Hohmann

Memorial services for Mary Mahone Hoh-mann, age 73 of, Del City, are scheduled for 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) in the Oklahoma Room of the Oklahoma Bank & Trust, 603 Gary Blvd. in Clinton.

Mrs. Hohmann died Wednesday, June 17, in her home. She was born Nov. 15, 1941, in Clinton, the daughter of Edward Herrin “Jack” and Mary Eugenia McCoy.

She graduated from Clinton High School in 1959 and attended the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority and received a Bachelor of Science in speech and hearing sciences in 1963.

She married Roger Cook, who was employed by the military. She pursued graduate studies in Texas, California, Florida and Thailand and worked as a speech-language pathologist.

Mary and Roger divorced, and she later married Bob Hohmann, living in Iran for several years prior to the revolution.

Mary and Bob eventually divorced and Mary settled in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she studied martial arts and taught yoga as a certified instructor and worked as a speech/language pathologist for 30 years.

Her area of expertise was teaching vital communication to homebound students. For seven of her Florida years she lived on a sailboat, which she sailed in the Bahamas in the summer.

In 2012 she relocated to Oklahoma City to care for her mother and sister, Sue Ella. Mary’s life was full of learning, family, travel, animals and adventure.

Survivors include her sister, Jane Good, of Athens, Ohio; nieces, Emily Good of Carbondale, Colo., Jana Baldwin of Lakewood, Colo., and Sarah Pope of Concord, N.H.; and nephews, Michael Cecil of Elk City and Jon England of Clinton.

Preceding her in death were her father, Edward (Jack) McCoy; mother, Mary Gene McCoy (Mahone); and her sisters, Nancy England and Sue Ella Cecil.
