Clifford Barrick

Funeral services for Clifford “Pistol” Barrick, 90, of Arapaho, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Clinton’s First Baptist Church.

He died on Friday, April 15, 2016, at the Clinton Veterans Center.

Clifford Vest “Pistol” Barrick was born Jan. 6, 1926, to Clyde Vest Barrick and Ethel (Dunn) Barrick, in Stafford, where he was raised and attended school. He helped his mother on the family farm after his father passed away at a young age.

Mr. Barrick joined the U.S. Navy on May 30, 1944, and served during World War II.  He received his honorable discharge in May of 1946, with the rank of seaman first class.

He married Jo Ann Shephard on Sept. 21, 1947, in Arapaho, and they farmed and ranched in Arapaho for most of their married life. For a brief time the family moved to Missouri to farm, but soon returned to Arapaho.  He also worked for the Mid-West Farmers Co-op in Clinton for around 10 years.

Barrick was an avid sports fan, especially if his grandchildren were playing. He enjoyed doing leather work and playing cards and dominoes, but his passion was his family.

He had continued to farm until recently. At the time of his death he had been a resident of the Clinton Veterans Center for four months. Barrick was a member of the Arapaho Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Clyde Barrick and Randall Barrick; two sisters, Selma Williams and Lois Johnson; and two granddaughters, twins Dasha and Tasha.

He is survived by three daughters, Kathy Cornell and husband Pat, of Clinton, Rebecca J. Haggard and husband Bobby, of Clinton, and Sherry Staggs, of Arapaho; two sons, Jeff Barrick and wife Debbie, of Arapaho, and Brad Barrick and wife Gaye, of Clinton; brother-in-law Billy Mack Shephard and wife Shirley, of Arapaho; sister-in-law Bess Shephard, of Arapaho; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, with another two on the way; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be officiated by Dwight Shephard and Vann Leonard. Interment will follow at Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
