Barbara Vincent
A memorial service will be held for Barbara Lynn Vincent, 67, of Waukomis, at 10 a.m. today at Gage United Methodist Church.
She died Sunday, July 10, 2016, in Oklahoma City.
Vincent was born March 12, 1949, to Earnest “Sie” and Emma Parkins in Kansas. She was raised in Gage and lived most of her adult life there with her husband, as well as in Custer City and Waukomis.
She graduated from Gage High School in 1967, where she was active and excelled in basketball and track. She was named All-Star player of both basketball and track. She was an avid dancer and took jazz, tap, and ballet.
In 1967 she married Garry Russell Vincent, in Gage.
The couple first made their home in Guymon, where she worked at Sears. They then moved back to Gage where she worked for Beulah Shafer and O. Rex Shafer Public Accountants for several years. She later opened her own business, Barbara Vincent Accounting & Bookkeeping Services. When she and her husband went into the ministry, she worked for Roulette’s Tax Service in Custer City.
She became the first female member of Gage Rotary Club, was a member of Gage Chamber of Commerce, Gage United Methodist Church, Roadrunner Marathon Committee, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority group of Shattuck and Gage.
Vincent was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; father and mother-in-law, Calvin and Imogene Vincent; and brother-in-law Bob Slavin.
Survivors include her daughter, Crystal Lynn Godfrey; grandson Cody Russell Godfrey; brother-in-law Scott Vincent and wife Nancy; two sisters-in-law, Mavonteine Slavin and Darla Whitten and husband Dale; and with nephews, nieces, their children, and many close friends.
Interment will follow the memorial at Gage Memorial Cemetery.
