Glen D. Smith
Funeral services for Glen D. Smith, 87, of Bessie, will be held today at 2 p.m. in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel.
He died Friday, July 15, 2016, at AllianceHealth Clinton.
Glen Dale Smith was born April 25, 1929, to Ray and Alice (Smith) Smith, in Weatherford. He attended Gyp Hill School and Weatherford High School.
After high school he worked for Howard Kappel, until he was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1950. Following basic training Smith was stationed in Germany for the duration of his military service. He then returned to Weatherford, where he married LaNell Brown in 1953.
The couple made their home in Clinton, where Smith worked for the City of Clinton Water Department. In 1972 they moved to Bessie, and remained there to the present time.
Smith also worked for Cliff Dotson as a plumber’s assistant, he drove for LeeWay Freight Lines, and he worked for Bruce Merrill and Milton Koch, in construction. He later went into business with Merrill, until health problems forced Smith into early retirement.
He was a member of Bessie Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Harold and wife Barbara, of Clinton; nieces and nephews, Jan Armstrong and husband Scott, of Clinton, Linda Smith, Cathy Chissum and husband Bob, Nita Smith, Kay Woods and husband Keith, Gary McLemore and wife Nina, Bruce McLemore, Larry McLemore and wife Tammy, of Weatherford, Jimmy Smith and wife Elaine, of Amarillo, Texas, Karen Jo Elkins and husband Rex, of McAllister, Allan McLemore and wife Susan, Carolyn Sombrano and husband Jr., of Hydro, Terry McLemore, of El Reno, Cory McLemore and wife Erin, of Lookeeba, Todd Reynolds, of Pennsylvania, Roy Rich and wife Deborah, of Monahans, Texas, Donna Wyatt and husband Tom, of Richmond, Texas, Melva Ripley and husband Roger, of Dallas, Texas, Diane Frasier, of Christoval, Texas, Teresa Brown, of Anchorage, Alaska, and a special nephew, Cowboy Steven Dale Brown and wife Kathy, of Maplewood, Ohio.
Smith was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jean Reynolds, Josephine Smith and Martha Pearl McLemore; a brother, Jack Smith; and a nephew, Dale Smith.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Boys Ranch, 600 SW 11th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101.
The service will be officiated by Rev Harold Goldman. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, in Weatherford, under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
