Susan Howell Akers

A Celebration of Life will be held for Susan Kaye (Howell) Akers, 77, formerly of Clinton, on Friday at Brentwood Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, Calif.
She died Wednesday, March 14, 2018, in West Hills, Calif., after a short illness.
Akers was born Oct. 2, 1940, to Justin A. and Margaret Faye Howell in Enid. She grew up in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School in 1958. While growing up she was an avid swimmer and loved both tap dancing and the two-step.
After graduating from Southwestern State College in Weatherford she moved to Dallas, where she married George Akers and started a family.
Akers resided in several cities in Texas and Louisiana, but lived most of her adult life in Warr Acres. She worked more than 35 years as a bookkeeper at a local family-owned appliance store.
After retiring in 2014, she moved to southern California to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
She was known as the life of the party at the retirement home where she lived and introduced her love of card playing to the residents and staff.
Akers was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jerry.
Survivors include her daughter, Deirdre Dickey and husband Neal; two grandsons, Maclean and Jake; her son, Christopher Akers and son-in-law Dean Santiago; and her sister, Glenda (Howell) Stehr.
Her family suggests that donations be made in her honor to a local animal rescue charity.
