Man with knife threatens police officer
A man with a knife who allegedly lunged toward a Clinton police officer around 8 p.m. April 28 was arrested on anticipated charges of assault on a police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The suspect is Branden Caudle, 25. The police officer, Jeff Robbins, was not injured.
Detective Capt. Mike Murley said Robbins and other officers were called to the 1700 block of Hayes Avenue in reference to a subject with a knife trying to gain entry to a house. Murley said Jamie Hicks was the caller and the person with the knife turned out to be Caudle, her adult son.
In fact, Ms. Hicks met police outside the residence and told them he had gotten in and he did have a knife.
Murley said that while approaching the house, Robbins saw an individual through the window of the garage run back into the house. The officer then entered and when he did, the suspect allegedly came from another room with a knife in his hand and lunged at Robbins but did not touch him.
The man then retreated to another room but returned shortly thereafter without the knife and was taken into custody.
Murley said a glass smoking pipe used to consume methamphetamine was found in his possession.
“He is 25 years old and apparently lives at that address, and his mother called police due to his erratic behavior and having the knife,” said the detective.
The blade was about four inches long, said Murley.
