Alma Foster

Funeral services will be held for Alma Ruth Graybill Foster, 92, at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Thomas United Methodist Church
She died Monday, July 11, 2016, at the Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford.
Foster was born Nov. 6, 1923, to Joe and Cora (Ireton) Graybill, near Rhea.  She attended school at Rhea, at Leedey, and later at what is now Southwestern Oklahoma State University, in Weatherford.
She married John D. Foster on Nov. 17, 1943, just before his departure for the European theatre of World War II.
During the war years, Foster suspended her education at SWOSU to teach school in Putnam. She returned to SWOSU in 1963 and completed both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education. During her years at SWOSU she was listed on both the Dean’s and President’s Honor Rolls, and earned numerous other awards during her years as an educator.
She taught in Hennessey Public Schools until her retirement took place in 1988.
In the years following her retirement, Foster enjoyed gardening and growing ornamental plants and flowers, quilting with her friends at the Thomas United Methodist Church, and preparing delicious meals that she shared with family and friends who came to visit.  
She was baptized at an early age and will be remembered as a faithful member of the Thomas United Methodist Church.
Foster was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and siblings Roy Graybill, Clarence Graybill, Dan Graybill, Frank Graybill and Elma (Graybill) Watson.  
Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Garner Vanderwork and husband Mickey, of Weatherford; her son, Cary Foster, of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Albert Graybill, of Blountville, Tenn.; a grandson, David Garner and wife Michelle (Haggard) Garner; son Warren, of Anchorage, Alaska; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.  
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Thomas United Methodist Church, 216 East Kansas St., Thomas, OK, 73669, or to a charity of choice.  
The service will be officiated by Rev. Larry Harlan and Rev. Kip Heatley. Interment will follow at Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas.
