Barbara Hummel

Chapel services will be held for Barbara Jean Hummel, 83, of Cordell at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel.
She died Monday, March 25, 2019, at Cordell Christian Home.
Hummel was born Feb. 7, 1936, to James Smith and Iva (Jackson) Smith in El Dorado, Kan., where she attended grade school and high school. She served on the journalism staff as a proofreader for the school paper and was also a business manager for the school’s annual. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1954.
On Sept. 27, 1952, she married Robert Eugene Hummel, also from El Dorado, in Arkansas.
Hummel was a stay-at-home mother for many years and later worked outside the home doing some retail work before working in the credit and collections department of Halstead Hospital in Halstead, Kan. She remained there until she took an early retirement. When she and her husband retired to Mountain Home, Ark., she worked part-time there at a local health and nutrition store.
When her husband’s health began to decline they moved to the Cordell Christian Home, where she remained following his death.
She was known for her cooking skills and the loving attention she gave her family. Hummel was an avid reader and was very musical. She was devout in her Christian faith and worked with others to form several Bible study groups over the years.
Hummel was preceded in death by her husband; her mother; two sisters, Gladys Wiley and Mary Ellen Trainor; and a son-in-law, Michael Reid.
Survivors include two daughters, Sherry (Reid) and husband Justin Richardson of Clinton and Toni Munday of Oklahoma City; a grandson, Joshua Classen and wife Tiffany; a granddaughter, Jessica Yohn and husband Adam; and five great-grandchildren, Charles Reid Classen and Conner James Classen of Houston, Texas, and Harley JoLynn Reid Yohn, Ayden Wyatt Yohn and Jaxon Todd Yohn of Panama City Beach, Fla.
The family has suggested that memorial donations in Hummel’s name may be made to Cordell Christian Home or Faith Hospice.
The service will be officiated by Carol Waters and under the direction of  Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Clinton Cemetery.
