Barney Gunter
Funeral services for Barney O. Gunter, 88, Clinton resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel.
He died Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, in his Clinton home.
Barney Olson Gunter was born Oct. 8, 1926, north of Foss, the son of Floyd and Nora Christine (Olson) Gunter.
He was raised in the Clinton and Stafford area. He attended school at Oak Glade and graduated from Foss High School in 1944.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March of 1944 and served until he was honorably discharged in September of 1946.
He married Doris Louise Sharum, June 15, 1950, in Moore. They farmed south of Foss until he began working for the City of Clinton in the Water Works Department. He eventually became the Water Plant Superintendent at Foss Lake.
Gunter made his home at Clinton Lake until they moved to Clinton in 1985. After his semi-retirement, he worked at the Clinton Sale Barn, Moser’s Auto Supply Store and he did home construction projects.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, boating and even water skied up to the age of 70.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward Gunter.
Survivors include his wife, Louise, of the home; two daughters, Linda Louise Hoffman and Rita Brinkley and her husband, Monty, all of Canute; his son, Larry Gunter, and his wife, Yolanda, of Berlin, Okla.; two sisters, Leona Hill and her husband, Jerry, of Las Cruces, N.M., and Betty Rush and her husband, Lonnie, of Cushing; two brothers, Bill Gunter, of Kingsville, Texas, and Dick Gunter, of Miami, Texas; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be officiated by Rev. Jimmy Prickett. Burial will follow in the Foss Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
