Buddy Wheeler

Funeral services for Bud Wheeler, 73, of Clinton, former businessman and civic leader, will be held 10 a.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church.

Wheeler died Monday, April 4, 2016, in Clinton.

G.C. “Buddy” Wheeler III was born Aug. 27, 1942, to G.C. Wheeler Jr. and Maxine (Darnell) Wheeler in Houston, Texas. He was raised in Clinton where he attended school until the ninth grade, and then attended Western Military Academy in Alton, Ill., graduating in 1960.  He continued his education at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M. before entering Southwestern State College in Weatherford where he majored in Art.

He married Jan Dysart in 1963, in Clinton, where the couple made their home.  Buddy worked for Dave Guthrie in a men’s clothing store, where he eventually became owner and operator of Guthrie’s Men’s Wear.  He was later employed with WECI and Security Services until his retirement.

Wheeler was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous boards and participated in many activities. He was active with Boy Scouts of America for many years, and received numerous awards and merits for his service.   He was very active in many civic organizations including Clinton Chamber of Commerce, and served as president of Jaycee’s and Lions Club. Wheeler served on many other boards, and participated in many civic activities, to promote Clinton and Western Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Judy Max Bartlett.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, G.C. “Cleve” Wheeler IV and wife Tonya, of Piedmont, and Lance Wheeler and wife Linda, Edmond.

He is also survived by three grandsons, G.C.”Quent” Wheeler V, Evan Wheeler and Dillan Thomas Wheeler and wife Kasalynne; and a nephew, Ron Hoffman and family, of Shattuck.    

The family has suggested those wanting to make a memorial contribution may do so to Clinton’s First United Methodist Church General Fund, or to Boy Scout Troop 361, c/o First United Methodist Church, 1001 Frisco, Clinton,  73601.

Services will be officiated by Rev. Roland Youngberg. Interment will be at Clinton Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau- Lee Funeral Home.
