Chester Gorshing
A graveside service for Chester “Shorty” Gorshing, 94, Custer City resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Arapaho Cemetery.
He died Oct. 15, 2015, at Angelwood Assisted Living Center in Clinton.
Chester Lewis “Shorty” Gorshing was born Sept. 9, 1921, the son of Fred and Dora (Buncheck) Gorshing in Bessie. He was raised in Arapaho, and graduated from high school in 1939. He soon enlisted in the
U.S. Air Force and served during WWII. After receiving his Honorable Discharge, he returned back to Custer County area.
He worked for Raymond Lydia at the Champion Station for more than 30 years. He worked for the City Department for Custer City and later he retired from the County Barn.
He was married to Elizabeth Lorene Johnson June 4, 1949, in Anthon, and they were married more than 65 years. She preceded him in death in May of this year.
He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Thomas, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also enjoyed his farming and ranching career for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and four brothers, Albert, Alfred, Francis and Cy.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Smith and her husband, Gary, and Kathy Luschen and her husband, Dale, all of Yukon; and his granddaughter, Lindsay Hayes, and her husband, Daniel, of Aurora, Colo.
Services will be officiated by Father Chris Tran and Tom Litsch and under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
