David Guy Koch

Funeral services for Guy Koch, 56, Arapaho resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Arapaho Baptist Church. He died Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at Alliance Health Clinton.

David Guy Koch was born July 21, 1959, to Eldon Mearl Koch and Lola Jean (Spradlin) Koch, in Clinton. He was raised in Arapaho and graduated from Arapaho High School in 1977. He later continued his education at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan. and received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Dec. 4, 1980, and was honorably discharged in 1984.

He was a member of the 317th Combat Engineers and was later involved in  atomic demolitions.

He worked as a cowboy in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas. While serving in the military he served in the overseas rodeo circuit.

Koch married Molly Shuck in 1991 in Santana, Kan. He was the police chief in Hardesty until 2009, and served on the police force in Waynoka in 2009 and 2010.

In 2011 he became disabled and returned to Arapaho, and lived there until his death.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying pigeons and doing leather work.     

He was a member of the Arapaho First Baptist Church.

Koch was is preceded in death by his father and two nieces, Corie and Darcie Koch.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; his mother, Arapaho; three daughters, Mandie Briant and husband, Jason, Shawnee, Tara Johnson and husband, Jason, Tyrone, and Shawnna Northern and husband, Steven, McAlester; a son, Ethan Koch and wife, Emily, Topeka, Kan.; two sisters, Connie Harris and husband, Mike, Custer City, and Fern Riley and husband, Rick, Lockhart, Texas; a brother, Boyd Koch and wife, Nora, Strong City; and 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebekah, Lillian, Joshua, Wyatt, Avery, Cody, Montana, Noah and Teagan; and several nieces nieces and nephews.

The family has suggested those wanting to give a memorial contribution may do so to the Arapaho First Baptist Church or the Palliative Care Unit at the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Services will be officiated by Pastor Vann Leonard. Interment will be at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson with military honors, under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
