Eddie Schmidt

Funeral services will be held for Eddie J. Schmidt, 84, of Clinton, at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Mennonite Church in Clinton.

He died Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at his home in Clinton.

Mr. Schmidt was born on June 27, 1931, to Edward and Marie (Jantzen) Schmidt in Bessie. In 1955, he married Eldeen Sawatzky, also in Bessie.

He loved working with wood and was a phenomenal carpenter, and built many homes throughout Clinton while working for Elk Supply for over 25 years. He was later employed at the Clinton Veterans Center for 12 years, and retired in 1996.

Schmidt was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a sister, Alice Schmidt; five brothers, Paul Schmidt, Robert Schmidt, Martin Schmidt, Norman Schmidt and Alfred Schmidt.

He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Kelton and husband Bill, Clinton, and Karen Martin and husband Mark, Granite; a son, Rick Schmidt, Burns Flat; four sisters, Helen Schmidt, Ann Schmidt, both of Cordell, Mary Lou Juet and husband Glen, Bolivia, South America, and Katie Smith and husband George, Denver, Colo.; a brother, Louis Schmidt, Corn; eight grandchildren, Amy Selman and husband, Dale, Cordell, Tammy Marshall and husband, Cory, Clinton, Kimberly Eschiti and husband, Larry, Hobart, Joshua Martin, Granite, Jade Martin, Sayre, Jason Schmidt and wife Amy, Clinton,  Lori Merrill, Clinton,

Michael Schmidt, Hammon; 11 great-grandchildren, Logan, Tugger, Gracie, Dalton, Tori, Trinity, Trey, Taylor, Jordan, Leslie and Lexa; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be at Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home, Friday from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Interment will follow the service at Bergthal Cemetery in Corn under the direction of Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home.
