Henry Newman

Funerals services for Henry Newman, 71, were held Saturday, May 21 at Elk Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

He died May 19, 2016, at Oklahoma City.

He was born June 6, 1944, in Shamrock, Texas, the son of Patsy and Jerry E. Newman. At an early age Henry was raised by Letha (Rogers) Newman because of his mother’s passing.

He grew up in and around Duncan, where he attended school, graduating in 1962. After graduation he attended the University of Oklahoma for a year before transferring to Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

He married Emma Jean (Stewart) Newman Dec. 18, 1965 at the Elk City Primitive Baptist Church. They lived in Cordell and Tulsa for a brief period before moving to Duncan where he sold insurance and real estate.

In 1981, they moved to Dill City where he began his career in the oil field and remained there until 1995 when they moved to Arapaho to make their home.

Newman was an avid bass fisherman, enjoyed studying the Bible and loved spending time with his family, church family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife,  Emma Jean, of the home; three sons, Tom Newman and wife, Janet Boivin, of Elk City, Mike Newman and wife, Amberly of Baltimore, Md., and Brad Newman and wife, Melissa, Richardson, Texas; six grandchildren, Maya Ferrer-Toolsie, Kai Ferrer-Toolsie, both of Dallas, Avery Newman and Ian Newman, both of Baltimore, Todd Hume and wife, Karissa, and Brooke Hume all of Springvale, Maine; one great grandchild, Ella Elaine Hume;  two sisters, Celia Kreie and husband, Dennis, of Duncan and Marilyn Hughes and husband, Mike, of Oklahoma City; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were officiated by elders Dennis Kreie, Mike Hughes and Norman Jones. Burial was at Ural Cemetery.
