Jay Hardin
Funeral services for Jay Loyal Hardin, 80, of Weatherford, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant View Mennonite Church.
He died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at his home in Weatherford.
Hardin was born June 28, 1936, to Laurence L. Hardin and Mildred I. (Claunch) Hardin, in Weatherford. He was raised and attended schools in Weatherford, and graduated from high school in 1955. He then attended college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University for one year.
When he was young, he worked with his family raising chickens and traveling for summer wheat harvest, and also farmed for Albert Friesen before he was first married.
In 1956 he married Jeraldene (Jerri) Friesen. He later married Annette (Horst) Roof in 1975.
Hardin worked for Sawatzky Construction for nearly 50 years. After retiring, he ran a farm and cattle operation.
He was active in the National Guard, and loved to work on car restoration projects. He was a trustee at Pleasant View Mennonite Church for nine years.
Hardin was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jeffry Lynn.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; one sister, Karen Eustice and husband Joe, of Florissant, Mo.; one brother, Timothy, of El Reno; grandchildren Chasstan, of Slidell, La., Jeni, of Twin Falls, Idaho, Brian Roof and wife, Tina, Derik Roof, Nicole Meza and husband, James, all of Phoenix, Ariz., Daniel Roof and wife, Vanessa, of San Angelo, Texas, Jennifer Salazar and husband, Richard, of Friendswood, Texas, Jordan Roof, of Vernal, Utah, Patrick Roof of Fort Worth, Texas, Tiffany, Jarred, Jayce and Hillary Barnes and husband, Rusty, all of Weatherford, Thomas and Keisha, both of Clinton, Jared, of Weatherford, and Leah, Michael and Spencer, all of Corn; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Pleasant View Mennonite Church Building Fund.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm. this evening, at the funeral home.
The service will be officiated by Pastor Jeff Selzer. Interment will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery.
