John Curtis Shield Jr.

Graveside services with full military honors for John Curtis Shield Jr., 90, San Antonio, Texas resident and Clinton native, will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach.

Shield died June 19, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born June 18, 1925, in Clinton, the son of John and Tommie Shield.

Shield enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served in World War II in the South Pacific.

After the war he served for 22 years in the Air Force.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, Helen Magdelina Capulli; and his daughters, Michelle Beatrice Henderson and Joanne Elizabeth Timbes.

Survivors include his second wife, Gloria Jean Shield; three daughters, Sandra Jean Miller and her husband, Bill, Karen Lynn Hanley and Tommie Renee Sinclair and her husband, Allen; a step-son, Ronnie Bruce Riley and his wife, Janet; two step-daughters, Lisa Gail Hudson and Tammie Rae Murch and her husband, Chauncey; 18 grandchildren; and 31 great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org in John’s memory.
