Joseph Davis
Funeral services for Joseph Allen Davis, 80, of Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the First Mennonite Church.
He died Friday, July 15, 2016, in his Clinton home.
Joseph Allen Davis was born Dec. 28, 1935, to Samuel Colbert Davis Jr. and Gladys Raynita (Elledge) Davis, in Rosedale. The family moved from Rosedale to Norman at the beginning of Joe’s junior year, and then moved to Wayne his senior year, where he graduated in 1954.
He married JoAnn Craig in 1956. The couple moved to Oklahoma City, where Joe got a job working at the Gilt Edge Dairy Farms as a route milk man. At the end of 1964 they moved to Weatherford, and then six months later to Clinton.
When Davis moved to Clinton he had been promoted to area route manager for Gilt Edge Farms. He supervised the other milk men, and he also worked his own route.
During his lifetime Davis was a milk man, ran a pig farm for several years, owned a Texaco station, worked for Zip Tool in Weatherford, Smith Oil Company, Dave’s Stop and Shop, farmed and ranch for his son Tim, sold insurance, sold used cars, and made special knives with engravings.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Davis was preceded in death by his parents; brother James Davis; sister Doris Davis; one grandchild, Dustin Shepherd; and one great-grandchild, Danica Blood.
He is survived by his wife; sister Sammy Villines, of Weatherford; brother Paul Davis, of Purcell; five children, daughter Cindy Ousley and husband Roger, of Custer City, son Tim Davis and wife Kathleen, of Arapaho, daughter Jane Nickel and husband Eugene, of Clinton, daughter Tammy Shepherd and husband Allen, of Arapaho, and son Joe Shane Davis, of Clinton; 13 grandchildren, Melissa Haught and husband Jon, of Rio Rancho, N.M., Jennifer Pitzer, of Hydro, Matthew Ousley and wife Morgan, of Enid, Sabrina Krone and husband Thomas, of Jones, Adrienne Sewell and husband Berry, of Clinton, Jake Davis and wife Diana, of Clinton, Gene Nickel and wife Stacie, of Clinton, Dr. Daniel Shepherd and wife Kaci, of Vidalia, Ga., Mindy Moore and husband Caleb, of Clinton, Elizabeth Shepherd, of Arapaho, Seirra Barnette and husband Adam, of Clinton, and Devin Davis and wife Malia, of Clinton; and 20 great-grandchildren, McKinsey, Cory and Carlie Haught, Taylor Pitzer, Olivia Ousley, Thomas, Tyler and Shelby Krone, Andrew and Luke Sewell, Decker and Slade Davis, James Carter, Judd and Selbi Shepherd, Tinley and Dustin Moore, Lucy and Ben Barnette Lennon, and Joe Davis; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers, Pat Serratt and Lori Flores, both of Clinton.
The family has suggested those wanting to give memorial contributions do so to Shepherd Home Health and Hospice, 525 South 30th Clinton, OK 73601.
The service will be officiated by Rev. Billy Mucker and Pastor Daniel Mosburg. Interment will follow at Clinton Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
