Leslie Wandrie
Funeral services for Leslie Wandrie, 83, Clinton resident and businessman, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Les died Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, at Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford.
He was born Nov. 27, 1932, to Robert Wan- drie and Doris (Dodd) Wandrie in Frazee, Minn. He was raised in Frazee, where he attended school, and also Fargo, N.D. He moved to the state of Washington when he was 17 and enlisted in the U.S. Army.
Wandrie served in the Korean conflict and was stationed at Desert Rock, Nev. In 1955 he transferred to the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Clinton- Sherman Air Force Base in Oklahoma. After being honorably discharged he made his home in Clinton, where he owned and operated several businesses including Les’s Lounge, Les’s Bar, Slim’s, Les’s Texaco and most recently Clinton Liquor Store.
He married Winnie Mae Bent in 1959 and they lived in Clinton until her death in 1966. He later married Frances Harycki, and they also made their home in Clinton.
Wandrie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as commander of both organizations at least three times.
He was preceded in death by both his wives; his parents; and three children, Darwin Wandrie, Robert Wandrie and Malinda Gayle.
Survivors include two daughters, Leslie Wandrie, of El Reno, and Doris Wandrie-Thunderbull and husband, Larry, of Clinton; two sons, Dale Wandrie and wife, Nancy, of Bella Vista, Ark. and Martin Wandrie and wife, Lisa, of Clinton; three sisters, Donna Mashek, of Kansas City, Mo., Lucille Bohlin and Gladys Wandrie, both of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and three brothers, Carl Wandrie and wife, Jeannie, of Grand Forks, N.D.,
Roger Wandrie and wife, Jaanjia, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Gary Wandrie, of Woodbine, Md. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be officiated by Rev. Jerry Lamb and Rev. Doyle Kinney. Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
