Mamie Schmidt

A graveside service for Mamie Schmidt, 90, of Bessie, will be held at 10 a.m. today in the Union Hatchett Cemetery near Bessie.
She died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, at Angelwood Assisted Living Center in Clinton.
Mamie (Dyck) Schmidt was born May 2, 1926, to Henry J. Dyck and Lizzie (Peters) Dyck, in Corn. She was raised in Corn and attended school at Sparta Elementary.  
She started farming at a young age. When her parents moved to California, they left Schmidt and her brother, John, to operate the family farm. In addition to farming, she was employed at the Kellwood factory, Collins and Aikman, and Braum’s Ice Cream.
In 1944 she married Edger Schmidt, in Corn. They made their home in Bessie, where they farmed together until his death in 1981.
Schmidt later moved to Clinton, where she was a resident of Angelwood Assisted Living Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four sisters, Margaret Huebert, Martha Moser, Marie Schmidt and Henrietta Golbek; and a brother, George Dyck.
Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Evers and husband, Terry, of Springdale, Ark., and Barbara Merrill of Duncan; three granddaughters, Suzanne Johnson of Norman, Stacy Hoffman of Blanchard, and Christy Oyster of Duncan; and five great-grandchildren, Shelby Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Logan Oyster, Carter Oyster and Garrett Oyster.
The service will be officiated by Rev. Chris Fields. Interment will follow under direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
