Mary Ann Hays

Funeral services for Mary Ann Hays, 80, Clinton businesswoman, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Roland Youngberg.

Mary Ann Hays was born Jan. 27, 1934 to Lewis and Anna (Greeley) Pope in Frederick, and she died Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, in the Oklahoma University Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Mrs. Hays was raised in Frederick and attended school there through the ninth grade. Her family moved to Clinton where she attended her high school years, graduating in 1952.

She married Gary G. Hays on April 14, 1951 in Weatherford. They made their home in Clinton for a short time while Gary attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford. He was accepted to the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine in Norman, and they moved there.

She worked as a lab technician so Gary could attend college, and he graduated in 1960.

They also made their homes in Lafayette, La. and Denver, Colo.

He became a board certified surgeon, and they returned to Clinton in 1966 where he practiced for more than 50 years. He was Custer County coroner for over 20 years.

Mrs. Hays was a realestate agent and owned and rented numerous rentals and apartments.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Dr. Gary G. Hays; her parents; and two daughters, April Shantel Hays and Caprice “Cappy” Shantel Hays.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Lynn Hays and Oran Hays and his wife, Donna, all of Clinton; five grandchildren, Devon Hays, Daren Hays, Scott Hays, Ryan Hays and Katelynn Hays; one great-grandson, Darius Hays; and four step grandchildren, James, Tonia, Gabe and Bo Clem and their children.

Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery, under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
