Maxine Johnson

A private funeral service will be held for Maxine Johnson, 86, of Clinton.

Mrs. Johnson died Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the United Methodist Health Care Center.

Martha Maxine Miller was born March 11, 1930, to Harry E. “Pete” Miller and Carthel (Dower) Miller. Although she was born in a sod house in northern Oklahoma, the attending physician was from Kiowa, Kan., so her birth was registered in Kansas. She was raised in Woodward by her father and step-mother, Rose Miller.

She married Homer F. Johnson in Portales, N.M., in 1949, and they made their first home on a farm near Boise City. In 1959 they sold the farm and purchased a motel in Rocky Ford, Colo. Then, in 1964, they bought the Home on the Range Motel in Clinton. At the time of her husband’s death in 1994, the couple owned two motels in Clinton and one in Weatherford.

Preceding her in death were her husband; her parents; two brothers, Joe and H.L. Miller; and three sisters, Anna Lou Lanphear, Betty Shaw and Edna Currier.

She is survived by her three children, Debbie Johnson and husband, Sie Enyart, of Luther, Catherine Poe and husband, Neil, and Lee Johnson and wife, DeAnn, of Clinton; grandchildren Kelly Odom and husband, Jason Stacy, of Edmond, Sidney Johnson and fiance, Thuy Hadvab, of Gilbert, Ariz., Owen Poe, of Clinton; great-grandchildren Madison Odom and Carson and Parker Hadvab; sisters-in-law Joan Miller, of Edmond, and Opal Miller, of Woodward; brother-in-law Robert Currier, of Coldwater, Kan.; many nieces and nephews; and close friend Barbara Thompson, of Clinton.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Action Associates.
