Patty Kauk
Funeral services were held Monday for Patty B. Kauk, 84, of Leedey, at the First Baptist Church in Leedey.
She died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at Corn Heritage Village.
She was born on March 17, 1931, to Alfred I. “Jim” Barten and Mary A. (Dowling) Barten in Leedey. She grew up in Leedey and attended Leedey Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1949. In 1949, she married Junior Kauk. The couple made their home in Leedey for the next 66 years until 2015, when they moved to Corn.
Alongside her husband, Mrs. Kauk worked at the Leedey Cotton Gin, Kauk Oil Company service station, and they farmed. She also worked at the Leedey Nursing Center for 10 years, where she started out as a cook and eventually became activity director.
She was a member of the Leedey EMT. At a time when Leedey Ambulance was about to lose its service for lack of volunteers, she and Betty Stout stepped up and took the EMT training to keep Leedey from losing their ambulance service. They served as EMTs for many years.
Mrs. Kauk was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Leedey all her life. She had many hobbies, including baking, painting, fishing, traveling, and camping. She hosted and cooked the Kauk reunion in her home many times. She thoroughly enjoyed her kids, grandkids, and great grandson, and spent many hours playing Plunk and other activities with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Denton Edward Kauk: a brother, Floyd Barten and wife, Avis; five brothers-in-law, Gilbert Kauk and wife, Hazel, Melvin Kauk and wife, Stella, Austin Kauk, Johnny Kauk, and Bert Nichols; two sisters-in-law, Florence Kauk and Geraldine Robertson and husband, Preach.
She is survived by her husband, of the home; two sons, Danny Edward Kauk and wife, Linda, of Vega, Texas, and Dickey Ivan Kauk, of Weatherford; sister Peggy Cole and husband, Den, of Taloga; brother-in-law Allen Kauk and wife, Maxine; sisters-in-law Roberta Kauk, of Leedey, and Margaret Nichols, of Elk City; one granddaughter, Carrie Cram and husband, Joel, of Anna, Texas; one great-grandson, Li’l Joel Cram; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The service was followed by interment at New Hermon Cemetery in Leedey. Condolences may be made to the family at shawfuneralhome.net.
