Steve Belcher

Funeral services for Steve Belcher, 64, Clinton resident and longtime employee of the Clinton Daily News, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Church of God.  

He died Wednesday Nov. 25, 2015, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Steven Wayne Belcher was born Oct. 4, 1951, to Jack E. Belcher and Arline (Riddle) Belcher in Enid.

He was raised in Woodward and graduated from high school in 1969. He continued his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and received his journalism degree in 1973.   

He was employed first with the Woodward County Journal paper.

After college Steve was employed at the Clinton Daily News for the next 42 years.

During that time he served as news editor, laying out pages in addition to writing stories, taking photos and dealing with the public. He also covered the education beat and wrote his weekly column, “It’s a Thought,” for several years.

He worked as a photographer for weddings and other events over the years.

His health forced him to medically retire in August of 2015.

He was an active and faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene, serving in numerus capacities such as song leader and Sunday school teacher.

He covered the Southwest Playhouse for many years, writing reviews for each of its productions, and would later take acting roles within them as well.

Steve was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion.

In his spare time he enjoyed reading and spending time and traveling with his daughter, Ali Belcher.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Braydon Sorter.

He is survived by his daughter, Ali, of Edmond; Ali’s mother, Pam Belcher, of Clinton; and several grandchildren.

Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
