Vera Schimmel
Funeral services for Vera Schimmel, 89, Bessie, resident will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church in Bessie.
She died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2015, at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Vera Eloise Schimmel was born Aug. 19, 1926, in McLoud the daughter of Edwin George Horne and Alice (Rutherford) Horne.
She was raised in Oklahoma City, where she attended Taft Junior High School and Classen High School, graduating in 1944. She worked for BraniffAirlines and IBM.
She married Gilbert Schimmel June 7, 1956, and they made their home in Oklahoma City. When he retired in 1992, the couple moved to Bessie.
During her years in Oklahoma City, she was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. After moving to Bessie, she was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed doing needle work and was an avid fan of the University of Oklahoma. She also enjoyed spending winters with her husband in the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Evelyn England; and a brother Edwin G. Horne Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert; her son, Mark Schimmel, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Fort Mill, S.C.; four grandchildren, Clarissa Stockwell and her husband, Kord, of Bethany, Matthew Schimmel, Kevin Schimmel, and Walter Schimmel and his wife, Kimberly, all of Oklahoma City; four great grandchildren, Kayli, Mark, Ella, and Templar; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pastor Alan Fox will officiate the services. Burial will be at the Peace Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
