Wayne Haggard

Funeral services for Lester Wayne Haggard will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, at the Assembly of God Church in Oologah.

He died Oct. 29, 2015 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO.

He was born March 20, 1939, in Thomas to Lester and Christina (Switzer) Haggard. He graduated from Butler High School, and continued his education at Southwestern State University in Weatherford, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. On July 6, 1963, he married Floretta Faubion in Custer City. He taught school in Oologah and was an educator for over thirty years. He enjoyed traveling to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado where he and Floretta would hunt for different rocks and where he taught geology of the Rockies. He enjoyed farming and being outdoors, but his family was his first love.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Curtis Haggard.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Floretta, of the home; his daughter, Lori Hotfelt, and her husband, Kenneth, of Talala; siblings Lonnie Haggard and his wife, Connie of Butler, Oklahoma, and Ramona Cox and her husband, Calvin, of Hollister, Mo.; two grandchildren, Lachelle Eckhart and her husband, Dawson, of Oologah, and Kaleb Hotfelt of Talala.

Services will be officiated by Pastor Kent Jensen. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Talala, under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service. Family will be receiving friends Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Benjamin Funeral Home in Nowata.

Memorials in Wayne’s name may be made to the Building Fund at the Assembly of God of Oologah.
