Clinton sports fans expect across the board coverage

Collin Like I see ‘Em

My name is Collin Wieder, and I just wanted to introduce myself as the sports editor of the Clinton Daily News.
I graduated from Abilene Christian University this May with a degree in journalism. In my time there, I covered volleyball, baseball and football. I had the opportunity to cover high school football the fall of my senior year as well.
My work has been published on multiple online media sources. I currently work for FanSided.com’s college football section called Saturday Blitz.
Clinton has an illustrious sports history and I’m excited to cover the Red Tornadoes and the surrounding areas. Being born and raised in Texas, I understand the importance of high school sports especially football.
It is king in terms of high school athletics in Texas and Oklahoma. I promise to give Clinton the respect that a program of its caliber deserves. The opportunity to cover a 16-time state champion is exciting.
My journalism career started because of high school athletics. I’m someone who has hands on experience with the field.
This is going to be an awesome year covering the city of Clinton and its athletics. From Clinton T-ball to OU and OSU coverage. Each sport, at each level will command my same level of passion for sports journalism.
My goal is to give up-to -the-minute sports coverage through the use of Twitter, Facebook and the Clinton Daily News website. Through the use of social media, I am hoping to keep the fans updated with every score.
I look forward to meeting the fans, players and coaches. Everyone has been so hospitable and welcoming.
Here’s a look at my first column at the Daily News. This week it’s over Baker Mayfield’s extra year of eligibility. His fifth year means numerous  positives to Oklahoma’s future. The biggest positive comes from the team gaining experience while the younger quarterbacks sit and learn.
I want to also thank Steve McGaughey for his time and hard work at the Clinton Daily News. He made my transition into the sports editor role easy and friendly. I wish him a happy retirement and success in his future endeavors.
