Wrecker, car stolen from D&D autos

A 2017-model wrecker valued at $50,000 was stolen Saturday night or Sunday morning from D&D Used Cars located at the south edge of Clinton.
Thieves who cut a chain on the gate also stole a 2007 Dodge Durango passenger car valued at $10,000.
The Durango was recovered about 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon on Brock Drive in the southwest part of Oklahoma City near the intersection of S. Pennsylvania Avenue and SW 29th Street. Oklahoma City police made the recovery.
Jimmy Ferrero, spokesperson for the Washita County Sheriff’s Office, said the big truck was a Ford that had a dolly-type wrecker on it. He described that as a standard-type wrecker that holds up front tires of towed vehicles while the rear tires roll on the pavement.
“It lifts up one end of the car while pulling the other end on the road,” said Ferrero.
Deputy Sheriff Kelby Peoples investigated the thefts. He theorized that the Durango may have been towed away by the wrecker.
Ferrero said the vehicles were there Saturday evening and were found missing by an employee late Sunday morning. The Sheriff’s Office was contacted at 11:55 a.m. Sunday.
The thieves also broke into the dealership’s office and stole keys to other vehicles, along with some paperwork. The report did not say how many sets of keys to other autos were stolen.
Mileages for the two vehicles were not listed in the report.
D&D is located just south of the Custer County line in Washita County. That’s why Clinton police did not handle the investigation.
Ferrero said the stolen wrecker was entered into the National Crime Information Center’s listing of stolen automobiles.
