Many local folks were inconvenienced, but there apparently were no really serious problems in this part of Oklahoma as a result of a power surge that happened shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Among services disrupted was the critical 911 emergency telephone system and the Internet. Television station KFOR (Channel 4) quoted officials with the Enid Police Department as saying the statewide 911 system was disabled, but it also quoted AT&T as saying the disruption was not statewide.
The power surge occurred when a major fiber line was cut, reportedly near El Reno.
Attempts to reach an AT&T spokesperson Thursday after service was back to normal were unsuccessful.
