Emergency personnel were keeping a section of the former Clinton cotton oil mill and the edge of a housing addition just to the south isolated Wednesday after a leak was discovered around 3:30 a.m. in a rail car carrying muriatic acid, also known as hydrochloric acid.
“They had acid leak out of a tank car,” said Fire Chief Randy Carpenter. “We diked it up to keep it from getting into anything serious. We put a couple of loads of sand out to keep it from going anywhere.”
Carpenter said the company the chemical belonged to, EMS Green Transport, sent a couple of men out from Oklahoma City to help with control efforts.
