Traffic lights to come down; $7,725 saved

By postponing their decision for three weeks and getting additional quotes, city councilmen will save the City of Clinton almost $8,000 on removal of the signal lights at N. Sixth Street and Gary Boulevard.

Councilmen voted at their July 15 meeting to have the lights removed, but Don Rodolph wondered why it was going to cost more than $14,000 to do it. He wondered why city workers didn’t just do it.

Primarily for safety reasons, other councilmen felt it would be better to have professionals do it. One of them, Jason Hulin, whose daytime job is as an inspector for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, said he knew of two companies which did that kind of work for ODOT. They were contacted, and one came back with a quote of $6,450 and the other $6,735.
