Darryl Keith Byrd

Funeral services for Cheyenne priest Darryl Keith Byrd, 46, Hammon resident, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the A.G. Creach Auditorium at Hammon High School, officiated by Rev. Dolan Ivey and Rev. Gerald Panana.
A traditional all-night wake service will start at 7 p.m. tonight in the Hammon Indian Community Hall.
Byrd was born June 25, 1967, in Clinton, the son of Amos and Sharon Ann (Standingwater) Byrd. He died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, in the Great Plains Regional Medical Center at Elk City.
He was raised in Hammon and attended Hammon schools. Byrd was employed for a number of years in the oil fields, including Unit and Triad. He also did fencing on weekends and for the past four years he was employed with the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes.
He was a proud member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe and the Cherokee Tribe, Kit Fox Society and Red Moon Gourd Clan.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Candy-Byrd, and a son, Franklin Byrd of the home; his parents, Amos and Sharon Byrd, of Hammon; sisters, Brenda Byrd and Janell Byrd, both of Hammon;
adopted sisters, Lavada Gould, of El Reno, and Fiona Whiteskunk and Theda Orange, both of Hammon; two brothers, Terry Byrd and Wilson Standingwater both of Hammon; an adopted brother, Wilbur Bull Coming, of Hammon; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will follow in the Hammon Indian Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.
