Women veterans’ service recognized at yearly event

Women veterans from around the state will meet Oct. 22 in Tulsa for the 32nd annual Oklahoma Women Veterans Recognition Day (WVRD), sponsored by the Oklahoma Women Veterans Organization (OKWVO).
According to OKWVO Treasurer Sgt. Sonja Hatfield, USAF, ret., many people have yet to learn of the organization even though it’s been in existence since 1984.
“There are more than 29,000 women veterans just in Oklahoma,” said Hatfield. “Every year we have new women veterans attend who all say the same thing – ‘Why didn’t I know about this before?’”
