Ella Jane Gossen

Funeral services for Ella Jane Gossen, 82, Corn resident, were held at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday) in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church, officiated by Rev. Tim Sandy and Rev. Ken Gardner.

Mrs. Gossen died Saturday morning, Aug. 23, 2014, in the Weatherford Regional Hospital. She was born April 3, 1932 in Isabella, the daughter of Abraham and Martha (Kliewer) Epp.

She was raised in Isabella and received her schooling there through the eighth grade. She moved to Corn, where she attended and graduated from Corn Bible Academy in 1950.  She worked as a waitress at Tena’s Café and also did mission work in South Texas.

She married Jacob Gossen on Dec. 28, 1951 in Fairview. They made their home in Corn where they engaged in a farming operation, including a dairy.  They also had a custom harvesting operation which extended from Texas to the Canadian border.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Donald Epp and Wilbur Epp; and a sister, Francis Schmidt Fox.

She was a longtime active member of the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church, having served in many capacities in the church including being a Sunday school teacher and was a pioneer in the development of the Wednesday night fellowship meals, and together with Jacob they served as a deacon couple for 35 years.

She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary with Corn Bible Academy.

Survivors include her husband, Jacob, of the home; four sons, Kervin Gossen and his wife, Rhonda, of Weatherford, Carey Gossen and his wife, Nettie, of Morton, Ill., Kenton Gossen and his wife, Annette, and Kim Gossen and his wife, LeAnn, all of Corn; a sister, Evelyn Pauls, of Okeene; a brother Marvin Epp and his wife, Charlene, of Broken Arrow; 10 grandchildren, Cameron Gossen and his wife, Sh’Ree, of Cypress, Texas, Kelly Waters and her husband, Brandon, of Mustang, Jerod Lundy and his wife, Noel, of Yukon, Heath Gossen and his wife, Joye Beth, of Hydro, Cheryl Pridey and her husband, Derek, of Oberlin, Kan., Alysia Yoder and her husband, Scott, of Hillsboro, Kan., Allison Flaming and her husband, Aaron, of Bessie, Reid Gossen and his wife, Morgan, of Moore, Lane Gossen and his wife, Stephanie, of Hobart, and Pate Gossen, of Corn;  and 11 great-grandchildren, Emarie Gossen, Kasidy Gossen, Ella Gossen, Barrett Waters, Gage Gossen, Zoye Gossen, Chelidy Pridey, Jedidiah Pridey, Viley Pridey, Kale Flaming and Elijah Gossen.

Burial will conclude in the Corn Cemetery, under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
