Jane Ivey
Funeral services for Jane Ivey, 82, of Ralls, Texas, will be at 2 p.m. today (Saturday) at the First Baptist Church in Ralls. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday at Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
Mrs. Ivey died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014. She was born June 19, 1932 in Phoenix, Ariz., the daughter of Marvin Oliver Tanner and Sally Leonard (Kirkland) Tanner, the second of six girls.
Mrs. Ivey graduated valedictorian of her class in 1949 from Mattson High School, Mattson, Texas. On June 10, 1949 she married Howard Gene Wheeler. She began her married life in Haskell, Texas.
In 1954, Jane and Gene moved to the South Plains of Texas at Pettit, where she began a life long association with farming. A move to Levelland, Texas in 1963 would take her off the farm and place her in a job with Lemco, a feed and seed elevator. She lost her first husband in 1972.
On March 17, 1973, Jane married Gary T. Ivey in Levelland, Texas. They began their married life in Ralls, Texas. A couple of years into their marriage, they began “Ivey Farms.”
Jane worked to promote the Ralls Gardening Club, served on Crosby County Fair committees, represented the Republican Party at election polls, and worked the concession stand at the Ralls Rodeo for years.
Preceding her in death were her two husbands; her parents; a son, Barry Scott Ivey; her mother-in-law Golda Ivey; a sister, Joyce Lee Jenkins; and brothers-in-law, Grancer Jenkins, William “Bill” Baker, Ray Fergason, and Terry D. Ivey.
Survivors include three daughters; Frances Key and her husband, James, of Arapaho; Marvana Austin and her husband, Mark, of Cat Springs, Texas; Vanessa Coleman and her husband, Carl, of Ralls, Texas; two sons, Kelly Ivey of Ralls, Texas, Mitchell Ivey and his wife, Cindy, of Spring, Texas; nine grandchildren, Melissa Davis and her husband, Michael, Amy Jones and her husband, Randy, Jennifer Eaton and her husband, Chad, Jessie Brown and his wife, Nicole, Jackie Coleman, Callie Coleman, Ashley Ivey, Josh Ivey, Scotty Ivey; 13 great-grandchildren; Michaela Davis, Marshall Davis, Kodie Powell, Tucker Powell, Jordan Jones, Randy Jones and his wife, Courtney, Terra Jones, Tyler Eaton, Natalie Eaton, Wyatt Eaton, Pacen Moore, Alexa Brown, Dalton Brown; one great-great-grandchild, Paeton Eaton; four sisters, Frankie Jo Baker, Lele Mae Hobbs and her husband, Darwin, Sylvia Bill Blount and her husband, Kenneth, Becky Fergason, and Don O’Neal; and special friends; Zeferino and Rosie Martinez, Joyce Ann Schoggins, Joyce Redding, Dorothy Binder, Wanda Ruth Caddell, Ruby Medford; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Burial will follow in the Ralls Cemetery.
