A chapel service for Letha Elgbry (Roper) Dupree, 92, Custer County resident, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, officiated by Rev. Dale Nease.
Mrs. Dupree died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, in the United Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton. She was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Martha, the daughter of Yewell Washington Roper and Mattie Lena (Odell) Roper.
She was raised in Martha until she finished the fourth grade and then moved to Butler with her family and continued her schooling there.
She married Isaac Anderson “I.A.” Dupree on Dec. 13, 1939 in Butler, and they made their new home on the Byfield farm that adjoined Mr. Dupree’s family property north of Butler.
They moved to California for a short time, and in 1950 the Duprees moved back to the family farm in Butler. Her husband traveled with his job, and they made their homes all over Oklahoma but settled in Clinton in 1992.
Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1996, and she has continued to live in Clinton until the present.
She was a member of the Custer Avenue Baptist Church and had taught Sunday school and Bible school class for more than 50 years.
She volunteered at the Mission House Wear It Again Store for several years and was a member of the Antioch Sewing Club.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a daughter, Nelta Fern Evans; a son, James Dupree; five brothers, Vaundle, Elvin, Jay T., A.W. and Ludon Roper; and two sisters, Oneeda Glasscock and Artie Fay Smith.
Survivors include a son, Darrell Dupree and his wife, Marva, of Butler; a daughter-in-law, Janice Dupree, of Clinton; a son-in-law, Stanley Evans, of Lahoma; a sister, Nada Baker, of Butler; a brother, Vernon Roper, of Foss Lake Estates; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The family has suggested that those wanting to give a memorial contribution in her honor may do so to the Western Oklahoma Hospice or the Butler Baptist Church.
Burial will conclude in the Butler Cemetery.
