Larry Wayne Smith

Graveside services for Larry Wayne Smith, 74-year-old Clinton resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sunset Memorial Park in Norman, with Richard Royal officiating.

Smith died Tuesday, February 17, 2015. He was born June 8, 1940 in Coalinga, Calif., the son of Buster Durwood and Margaret Ann (Creech) Smith.

He was raised in Oxnard, Calif. and graduated from Oxnard High School in 1958. He attended Junior College in Coalinga and transferred to the University of Oklahoma where he graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science Degree.

Smith taught school for three years then started working on a ranch at Arnett. From 1983-2003 he taught school in Fort Supply and Arnett.  He attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Alva, where he received his Master of Education Degree.

He retired while living in Arnett in 2003, and in 2005 he moved to Clinton.

Survivors include one son, Jeremy Wayne Smith, and his wife, Brenda, of Texas; two daughters, Tori Leann Levine, and her husband, Steven, of Irving, Texas, and Shelly D’Esta Thompson, and her husband, James, of Clinton; one sister, Margaret Ann Wolf, and her husband, Tom, of Norman; one niece, Melissa Chavis, of Norman; one nephew, Christopher Chavis, and his wife, Jamie, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and two great nephews.

Smith was preceded in death by his parents.

The family suggests memorial contributions in his honor may be made to Parkinson’s Research. Arrangements are under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford.
